Nicole Merendino INTRODUCTION Attention-arousing material : I’m sure many of you have heard it said that “breakfast is the most important meal of the day”, but why is that? Thesis statement : There are many proven benefits to eating a healthy breakfast in the morning. Credibility material : For myself, I love to start my day off with breakfast. In the past, I have tried skipping breakfast regularly, and eating a healthy breakfast regularly. I have personally observed and experienced the positive effects that eating in the morning has on me. Preview : Breakfast gives you energy, stabilizes your blood sugar, and improves your cognitive function. Skipping breakfast, however, has detrimental effects on our mental and physical health, potentially leading to weight gain and heart problems. It is important to note that not all breakfasts are beneficial, and we need to make sure that we are eating a well-balanced meal in the morning. BODY I. Skipping breakfast can have negative impacts on your health. A. Not eating in the morning negatively effects your cognitive performance. 1. Charles Spence, a psychologist at the University of Oxford, wrote a review on Breakfast in 2017. a. Spence argues that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. b. He references research showing that the failure to eat breakfast has a harmful impact on cognitive function. c. Significant for us as students, who have to be alert and focused for classes.
