2 Public Policy Process Public policy is “a specific course of action that government takes to address a problem” (Light, Magleby, Nemacheck, pg. 370, 2015). An example of public policy is Health policy, a part of health policy is mandating insurance coverage. Which wasn’t mandatory until more recently, in that there were changes made to the healthcare system that makes it mandatory for all U.S. citizens to have health insurance (White, 2018). This is an example of the public policy process. Now what other public policies are out there? who gets to say what goes into a policy? and how are these policies even put into place? In this essay I will discuss 3 basic public polices, the steps taken in the public policy process, and the different ways citizens and interest groups can influence the public policy process. There are 3 basic types of public policy, those polices being distributive, redistributive, and revers distributive policies. Distributive policy is “
