Harley-Davidson movie - Harley relied too much on their image and not on quality - had to change their goals because of the Japanese - in mid 80s it was within days of going upside own - started to try to change their image to higher class with help of changing the looks of the shops and selling accessories pg 131, 132 - specialization Sometimes Companies have to change their goals/objectives - new person comes in, and wants to veer off o Steger to have better research institution - External environment situation happens. Like threat that company will go down (?) Torg as VP (trying to make ppl better at research) - asked students to fill out course evaluations - divided faculty into two groups o research orientated o less, older, teach undergrad classes - from the evaluations, found that everyone is about the same except the younger and better at research had the best evaluations Sears Catalog - had a good thing going to farmers - but the farm population was declining - don’t want to be selling to a market that is declining
