PERSONAL WORLDVIEW & BUSINESS ETHICS2STEP 1To what extent should personal religious beliefs impact our decisions about business ethicsReligion is a way of life. With that, religion should impact every aspect of a personal life. This includes but not limited to education, homelife and occupation. With a narrow focus on business decisions, the phrase “What Would Jesus Do?” comes to mind. Although the corporate structure as it is today was not present when Jesus walked the earth, there is a way to utilize that in the modern world. The phrase “What Would Jesus Do?” is not asking literally what would he do in situations, but asking him in prayer “Jesus, guide my steps so that I make decisions ethical in your eyes” (Kim, Fisher, & McCalman, 2009).Personal religious beliefs should be there to ethically guide a person through business decisions. However, if there is a situation that requires focus and the religious practice takes the focus from the job, it may be time to reevaluate the approach personally. When it comes to making a big decision for your company with ethical repercussions, the religious aspect of life can kick in for situations that require prayer.
PERSONAL WORLDVIEW & BUSINESS ETHICS3Religious beliefs cause people to change habits for the better by either providing strong guidelines, life lessons, or spiritual healing. An example is a person who regularly shows up late for work due to a hectic lifestyle. This person decides to give his heart to God and completely changes the work ethic. The individual shows up to work on time due to the new foundation and makes more ethical decisions.Does it seem odd to connect every belief we have about life back to what we believe about God?The only thing in this life that seems odd is individuals who are Godless. Connecting everything life has to offer to a higher power is normal. The human brain often cannot fathom things past its own understanding. Spiritual elevation becomes harder and harder to explain as the bible explains that mankind will be stronger in knowledge as the years progress and be less belief centered (Revelation 22:10). This is due to the free will God gave Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden. As a Godless man believes there is an explanation for everything even if they
