After a rigorous three-week testing and examination process, Group I, II and III cations in sample number 13 from the Hampton River were identified. The qualitative analysis of Group I cations (Ag + , Hg 2 2+ , Pb 2+ ) revealed that the sample contained Hg 2 2+ and Ag + . After cooling the solution, the addition of HCl had no effect on the filtrate, thus testing negative for the Lead cation (Pb 2+ ). Mercury was revealed as a white precipitate formed with small crystals after adding 6M NH 3 as NH 4 OH. Silver cations were present as litmus paper turned pink and a white precipitate formed after the addition of 6M HNO 3 . The qualitative analysis of Group II cations (Cu 2+ , Cd 2+ , Bi 3+ ) uncovered that the sample contained both Cd 2+ and Bi 3 + cations. Indicators such as a black solution and mustard yellow precipitates forming led to this discovery. After adding 6M NH 3 as NH 4 OH, and Thioacetamide
