Main Idea Details Reverend Hale is well versed in witchcraft and takes pride in that. He is happy to be called for Betty’s case. “This is a beloved errand for him; on being called here to ascertain witchcraft he felt the pride of the specialist whose unique knowledge has at last been publicly called for” Based on this quote, we know he takes pride in his knowledge because it is not often that he is called for such a thing. “…he had himself encoun tered a witch in his parish not long before. That woman, however, turned into a mere pest under his searching scrutiny, and the child she had allegedly been afflicting recovered her normal behavior after Hale had given her his kindness and a few days of rest in his own house.” “However, that experience never raised a doubt in his mind as to the reality of the under- world…” Once again his pride in his knowledge is displayed. In this situation, many would be skeptical of the child’s behavior - It is obvious that either the child was being abused under that woman’s care, or it simply didn’t like the woman. However, he immediately sticks with witchcraft as the main reasoning behind the child s misery and never questions it. Hale is an intelligent man, even he considers himself a learned man, however most of his intellectual pursuits are aimed at the invisible world - witchcraft and the like.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
