According to ethnocentrism is defined as 1. The belief in the inherent superiority of one’s own ethnic group or culture 2. A tendency to view alien groups or cultures from the perspective of one's own. I believe that my ethnic group is superior to other ethnic groups, but I am proud of my ethnicity and strive to learn more about other ethnic groups and their culture. Stereotypes and prejudices begin developing at a young age and are caused by multiple influences around us, such as family, friends, environment we live in and media. Racial and ethnic discrimination has morphed into a threat society never expected. From the riots and protests in the 1960s during the equal rights movement to our war on terror and all ethnic groups hated in America by Muslim extremists. From my experience, I have a couple of incidents that I will never forget concerning racism and prejudices. I had a normal childhood growing up on a farm just outside Cave City.
