Kim Jalm 905317188 In class, we have gone over the requirements for a good definition. Altogether, there are 4 requirements that must be met in order for a definition to be classified as a “good” one. The first requirement is that the definition cannot be just a listing of examples. For example, virtue cannot be defined as “someone who is virtuous”. The second requirement has two parts. The first of the two is that the definition cannot be too broad. The second is that it cannot be too narrow. The final requirement is the definition cannot be circular, or include the word being defined in the definition. I am first going to attempt to define the word “murder”. Murder is done by people who act like Ted Bundy, David Berkowitz, The Boston Strangler, and BTK. These may be examples of murderers, but do not even begin to define the word. Providing examples goes against the requirements of a good definition. Maybe to be classified as a murder, one must first murder another. This falls under a circular definition, and again goes against the requirements. To murder someone is to kill another human being. This is a good start to the definition; however, it is too broad. There are many different situations
