HST 121 December 8, 2005 Kendal Stivers Essay Topic #2 The rapid decline of the Roman Empire in Western Europe left a large amount of land for many tribes in those areas. With out any central controlling power in this land these tribes created many new small governments/ kingdoms were created. These small governments evolved through the middle ages, from small kingdoms to large countries such as England and France. We saw the largest amount of expansion and change in the High Middle Ages. During this time there was a population boom, this lead to the overall doubling of the current population. This population boom we can credit to new farming techniques and a new warmer climate. This new climate was only a degree or two in change, but this degree helped prolong the farming season, so more crops could be taken out with the newer farming techniques, this lead to a surplus in food. With this new surplus of food man people began to move to “non-feudal” towns. Many of these new towns became prominent trade centers with all the new agriculture.
