Define these terms: operating system, tools, and system software. Operating system: the software that supports a computer's basic functions, such as scheduling tasks, executing applications, and controlling peripherals. Tools: a device or implement, especially one held in the hand, used to carry out a particular function. System software: is software designed to provide a platform for other software. 3. List examples of desktop and mobile operating systems. Desktop operating system- includes Mac OS, windows, and Linux. mobile operating system- include Android, iOS, and windows phone. 4. Describe how an operating system interacts with the computer. Each time you start a computer or mobile device, the operating system is loaded (copy) from the computer's hard disk or mobile device's storage media into memory. Once the operating system is loaded, it coordinates all the activities of the computer or mobile device. 5. Custom Software performs functions specific to a business or industry. 6. Differentiate among mobile apps, native apps, native apps, cloud apps, and web apps. MOBILE APPS: web app that runs on a mobile device. Mobile web apps often have a responsive web design, which means the app is optimized for display in a browser on a mobile device, regardless of screen size or orientation. EXAMPLES OF MOBILE APPS: websites for shopping, banking, and online social networks accessed in a browser. NATIVE APPS: app written for a specific platform and installed on a computer or mobile device. Native apps can take advantage of specific features of the devices on which they are installed, such as a smartphone's camera or contacts list. You may install native mobile or desktop apps by downloading them from an app store, sometimes called a marketplace, or other location on the Internet. EXAMPLES OF NATIVE APPS: productivity applications, single-player games, and browsers. CLOUD APPS: makes use of software and data that are not stored on your computer or mobile device.
