Pepper Miller (2011), asserts in her article, Digital Divide: Segregation is Alive and Well in Social Media, that congregation allows multicultural and LGBT segments to connect with one another by sharing similar experiences related to their culture, lifestyle and music. I find this to be true in today’s digital age. Social media is a stage for people not only to connect with family and friends but is heavily used for one to openly express their feelings. To provide a comfortable environment groups are created for users to join to engage in conversations that are limited to those who are members of that group. Alyssa Milano went viral with the #MeToo movement in 2017 (Anderson & Toor, 2018). Milano used the Twitter platform to urge those who have been sexually abused to share their stories (Anderson & Toor, 2018). This created a comfortable environment for those who were afraid to speak out. The movement also led to members 44% of congress members to tweet about the topic in their posts (Anderson & Toor, 2018). In this instance the audience was digitally segregated because the female members of congress were more likely to tweet about the topic than their male counterparts (Anderson & Toor, 2018). The use of the infamous hashtag, a powerful voice, and social media assisted in delivering a clear message to those who have been sexually abused (Zilles, 2018). Users jumped on the bandwagon and eventually the hashtag went global.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
