FINAL PAPER 3 The Unmet Challenge of “The Last Call” I) Introduction and Methodology The prevailing view is that nothing has come into existence without a maker. Manufacturers produce a manual to serve as a guide to maximize the benefits of using their products from the point of view of customers. In the same vein, Allah, SWT, has produced a manual (the holy Qur’an) for humankind, which serves as a guide on how to navigate through in this world and in the Hereafter. This manual is referred to as “the last call” to humankind. Embedded in this manual is a challenge directed towards humankind and it goes thus: “if the whole of mankind and the jins were to gather together in order to produce the like of this book, they will surely not be able to” (Quran 30:74). Quran 2:23 also states that even a chapter like that of the Quran cannot be produced by anyone other than God Almighty. One would ordinarily assume that the challenge literarily refers to the beauty of the verses, or its rhyming, splendor, wisdom, prophecies, and other perfect attributes: however, it was discovered recently that this challenge referred to mathematical intricacies embedded in the Quran. In this write-up, reference will be made to some of the uniqueness of Quran as it relates to the unmet challenge directed to humankind prior to advent of modern science. Pickthall’s translation and its quotation system shall be employed. Numerous works have been done in the past by Muslims and non-Muslim to interpret and x-ray the content of the Quran. Because most works are anecdotal in nature and there are different motives behind these previous works, the topic ultimately presents that particular writer’s interpretation, which he has tried to pass across. For example, a Muslim would interpret certain verses of the Quran to prove a point, whereas a non- Muslim would refer to other verses to refute those points. It has therefore, become a subjective issue, which would be acceptable to people differently based on their original state of mind. Unlike previous works, this proposal endeavors to utilize evidence-based information according to research conducted by some scholars to prove the authenticity of the fact that the Quran could only have been authored by someone whose level of reasoning is beyond that of humans. Some of these proofs include topics like: “Over It Are Nineteen,” “Numerical Miracles of the Quran,” and “Scientific Proofs of Authenticity of the Quran,” just to mention a few.
