Christopher Anosike February 21, 2014 Professor Palpalini Legal Studies 1101 Chapter 7 Vocabulary 1) equity= allows the court to fashion a remedy to do what is just where traditional rules of law would produce an unfair result. 2) Compensatory damages= the most common type of award given to an aggrieved or injured party 3) pain and suffering= an item of recovery that is allowed in personal injury actions 4) special damages= are limited to those losses that are foreseeable, reasonably certain, and unavoidable 5) punitive or exemplary damage= a situation whereby a sum of the money is awarded to punish the wrongdoer and to send a message to others not to engage in the same code of conduct 6) nominal damages= arise when a technical wrong has been committed but no actual harm has resulted 7) convention= which limits the recovery of compensatory damages in personal injury
