Conservation of energy can be reduced by using energy more effectively or by decreasing the number of services used. Energy conservation is part of the concept of eco-sufficiency. Energy conservation decreases the needs for energy services and as a result, it increases the national security, environmental quality, higher savings, and financial security. In addition, it lowers energy cost by preventing the future depletion of the resources. Energy can be conserved by decreasing the losses and wastage and also by improving efficiency through upgrading technology and improvement of maintenance and operation. In Canada, for instance, energy can be reduced through stabilization of the population growth of the country.Energy can be changed from one form to another, for example, heat energy to motive power in cars or kinetic energy of water flow to electricity in hydroelectric power plants. However, machines are needed to transform the energyin more than one form. The friction and wear of the components of these machines while running cause loss of quadrillions of BTU and 500 billion in the industry. It is possible to reduce these losses by adopting green engineering practice to improve the life cycle of the components.
