NAME: CRISPUS CHERUIYOT REG NO: J26/1842/2010 CLIMATE CHANGE Climate change is a long term shift in the climate of a specific location, region or planet caused by changes associated with features of average weather such as temperature, wind patterns and precipitation. It occurs when the climate of a specific area or planet is altered between two different periods of time. When something changes the total amount of the sun’s energy absorbed by the earth’s atmosphere and surface. It also happens when something changes the amount of heat energy from the earth’s surface and atmosphere that escapes to space over an extended period of time. Causes of Climate Change i. Changes in the intensity of sunlight reaching the earth causes cycles of warming and cooling. ii. Variation in ocean currents- this alters the distribution of heat and precipitation. iii. Large eruptions of volcanoes- this sporadically increases the concentration of atmospheric particles, blocking out more sunlight.
