OBJECTIVE Periodical Inspection of MV Overhead Lines (33kV & 11kV) and the specific “inspection points” to be inspected in the elements that make them up. The aims of establishing the “generic criteria” for inspections, as well as the frequency of checks as advised by norms of good practice. What is established in the Electric Power Act for such installations, is taken into account, in order to attain a safe and reliable utilisation of the electricity network, as well as maintain a good quality of service. Any repair or replacement of the defective material found during the inspection shall be done, if possible, by the inspection team.

DEFINATIONS For operational purposes the classification of the different types of Maintenance have been simplified into the two types: Preventive Maintenance Corrective Maintenance Preventive Maintenance These are maintenance actions aimed at correcting anomalies in the components of the installations before they cause a fault that might render the installations out of service. Corrective Maintenance These are maintenance actions aimed at correcting anomalies in the components of the installations that caused the fault of the same and left them out of service.

Type of Inspection: Type of inspection to be used in inspecting an installation: VI – Visual inspection (achieved by examining the installation from the ground level) PC– Physical check (achieved by physically examining the installation at close range) ME–Measuring(achieved by using an appropriate measuring device to obtain a value) TC - Use of thermal visual camera.

Detailed Inspection Definition A detailed inspection is one effected by carefully inspecting the entire line, checking all spans, all the poles and climbing them if necessary .All anomalies identified in the various elements that make up the lines, together with other relevant data are recorded. Remarks that may be of interest in the opinion of the person in charge of the Inspection may be made.
