MORAL AND ETHICAL DECISIONS 2IntroductionIn today’s meeting we will discuss the recent and unfortunate situation at another local hospital in town. As you all know the situation I am referring to dealt with the triage of two patients and how the triage was handled. We will review our hospitals triage policies, proceduresand best practices.Healthcare Policies and ProceduresWe as a healthcare organization must follow a triage system in order to cope with overcrowding and provide care to those in need. We follow the five-level triage system: 1) Resuscitation 2) Emergency 3) Urgent 4) Semi-Urgent 5) Non-urgent. We also show priority to anyone with concerning respiratory issues, palliative pain issues, and heart or stroke symptoms. While we use the five level triage system to help classify our patients we also closely follow the resource-constrained triage method which is evidence based and outcome driven. That considers the resources to maximize the expected survivors (Aacharya, 2011).
