Basic Processes in Operant Conditioning - Acquisition and Shaping - Acquisition - the initial stage of learning some new pattern of responding - Shaping – the reinforcement of closer and closer approximations of a desired response. - required when an organism doesn’t emit desired response on its own - example in Skinner’s experiment: the rat might not press the lever, so at first they release food when the rat moves close to the lever. When this response gets more frequent, they start requiring the rat to be closer and closer to the lever for it to get food, and then finally, they require the rat to actually press the lever before it can get food - Extinction – gradual weakening and disappearance of a response tendency because the response is no longer followed by a reinforcer - Resistance to extinction – when an organism continues to make a response after delivery of the reinforcer has been terminated.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
