“Professions for Women”This is a talk given by Virginia Woolf. The talk concerns of her experiences of new freedoms of the time for women and how should they approach them.Virginia Woolf speaks of the freedom she now enjoys as a writer because of some pioneersthat came before her who opened the way for women to have more freedom. Virginia Woolf mentions Fanny Burney, Aphra Behn, Harriet Martineau, Jane Austen, and by George Eliot.Virginia Woolf mentions these women as making it acceptable for her to be a writer. Virginia Woolf mentions that she discovered as a critic that she had a phantom or spirit always behind her whispering in her ear .That spirit Virginia Woolf says quenched her writing abilities to be herself. The spirit was always trying to get Virginia Woolf to react as a polite women wouldreact and not as a person who would tell the truth.
