So far, we all agree that stricter government regulations for businesses can help mitigate the risk of future data breaches. Christine brought up an interesting point about the every day citizen's share of the security burden. I do agree that as consumers we share some of the responsibility to keep our personal information safe. However, when companies require this information from us as part of their services, we expect them to keep it secure. One example is banking: you cannot open a new account without providing a lot of very sensitive personal information to the bank you are working with. But what choice do you have if you are in need of an account to hold your money/build credit? So in the end we as consumers have to consent out of necessity to provide
