I believe that companies have the responsibility of protecting consumer information by not only updating and maintaining their systems regularly but also by investing in the right technology. Equifax failed in this aspect. Besides, the judicial system provides companies with an easy way to address such issues whenever they occur. For example, in this case, the federal district court in the Northern District of Georgia is set to rule on whether the company should pay $425 million to customers for the damages and $100 million for a civil penalty.
