Hannah Altizer HLTH 3491 July, 2019Article Review #4In the article, Kevin Fiscella delves into healthcare and the disparities of healthcare that exist in the United States. He argues that progress to eliminate disparities in the United States hasbeen slow and unpromising. However, recent healthcare reform may show promise in improving the disparities present. Fiscella describes the reasons behind disparities by stating that “Health care disparities related to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status (SES), and markers of social disadvantage result from a complex confluence of patient, clinician, and system levels factors” (Fiscella, 2011, p. 78). The number one domain that is listed as a way to improve these disparities is access to insurance and basic care. Access to primary care is important enough that it is made into its own domain. Improvement and implementation of health information technology is also listed as an important domain to ending disparities in the US healthcare system.
