Essentially, it was an era of social, economic, and cultural change. There was a drastic change from everyone and everything. The First World War and consumerism affected the United States economically by debt, socially by the anger of blacks and the Nineteenth Amendment, and culturally by the consumer society and the changes in women. The First World War shaped the 1920’s while consumerism defined it. World War I and consumerism created a drastic change in the aspects of society.For instance, African Americans became angrier and more self aware of what they couldactually accomplish and become in America’s society. One example was the Chicago Race Riot which, unlike previous riots, resulted in African Americans fighting back. One
