Chelsea Johnson-U2A1 1. Compare the purpose, functionality, and hardware characteristics of inkjet, laser, thermal, impact, and multi-function printers. Inkjet printers utilize magnetized plates and a charging tunnel to spray ink on the paper and are probably the most common type of printer today. These printers sometimes have trouble with smudging but are the most affordable option for users with only small print jobs. Instead of magnetized plates, laser printers use a laser, a drum and a corona wire to attract ink to paper and then fuse them together. Toner is not that expensive so the price per page is less than that of inkjet printers. You can also download more fonts to a laser printer. Impact printers are not as common anymore and are used most often when a user needs to print long spools of data or reports. An impact printer works by hitting a needle on an ink ribbon that is then put on the paper. A multi-function printer is commonly used in office settings because it allows users to print, copy, scan, email or fax from one machine and a great value to consumers.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
