Castillo 1 Daniel Castillo Mrs. Henderson English 12 Honors 09 May 2019 Literature Tasks Group 1: 1. Edgar Allan Poe “The Raven” by Edgar Allan Poe is about a man who is grieving the death of a women that cared about. This woman is Lenore and is described to be beautiful and have died young. His memories of her fills his mind making he believe that she is nearby or with him. “From my book surcease of sorrow … sorrow for the lost Lenore … For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore” (Poe 228). He thinks that her spirit came back for him. “As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door … tapping at my chamber door” (Poe 227). The man tries to forget about her by reading a book. However, an annoying Raven comes and bothers him. A Raven comes and repeats a phrase of words to him repeatedly, “nevermore”. The relevance of the Raven is that the Raven represents the total despair and darkness the man feels. The loss of Lenore is very difficult for the man to bear. This fact is seeming to be repeated by the Raven repeatedly saying Nevermore. The poem’s mysterious mood is built by the mysterious tapping on the door, the Raven who files in as soon as he opens the window, and the nighttime. The man is sitting in his chair in the dark in the middle of the night when he hears the sound. The darkness represents the void in his heart that was created by the death of the women. And the tapping refers to her presents and his memories about her. 2. Zitkala Sa

In the area where her camp was located, “a man in buckskins sat upon the top of a little hillock,” with a bow and arrow in his hand was waiting for someone (Bonnin 231). He was waiting for the chieftain’s men to spy him.
