PROJECT PLAN
Introduction
Purpose of Plan
This document serves as the formal plan for the Sunnyvale Regional Hospital Data
Migration Project, set to begin July 1, 2019. This project plan provides a comprehensive
overview of all related project details, inclusive of business needs, technical demands, and
stakeholder requirements.
The Plan defines the following:
 Project purpose
 Project scope
 Project assumptions and constraints
 Project risk
 Roles and responsibilities
 Project timeline and resources
Background Information
To date, a business need has been recognized to improve electronic Protected Health
Information (PII) for Sunnyvale Regional Hospital and its medical affiliates. To fulfill
stakeholder expectations and federal compliance, the Data Migration Project will be used to
create a safe storage solution for hospital data while in transit and at rest. As this hospital has
been the victim of phishing and information breaches in the past, this project was proposed and
approved in efforts to proactively plan and safeguard against future malicious attacks. Although
alternative vendors were discussed, the vendor of choice is Amazon Web Services (AWS) which
will provide storage capabilities and an internal checks and balances system for the hospital to
access, manage, and discard of information under hospital and federal standards.

Goals and Objectives
Under the guidance of social responsibility, this project aims to create a clear alignment
between business needs and technological requirements. Thus, the goals and respective
objectives are stated for clarity.
Business Goals
 Improve Sunnyvale Regional Hospital and medical affiliate market share by 2021
 Increase hospital efficiency by focusing on the 3 P’s: People, Process, and our
Product
 Encourage collaboration in information security efforts across the nation
 Foster a safe environment for company-related and patient data
Project Goals
 To maintain federal compliance in the protection of all Protected Health Information in
Sunnyvale Regional Hospital and partnering health facilities
 To utilize a secure, centralized data storage solution for housing sensitive data while at
rest or in transit
 To allow designated IT and business personnel access permissions to PHI

