Name: Arlyn Grace B. Eclarinal Course/Block: BSED – 3A Multiple choice items are a common way to measure student understanding and recall. Wisely constructed and utilized, multiple choice questions will make stronger and more accurate assessments. Advantages On too many multiple-choice tests, the questions do nothing more than assess whether students have memorized certain facts and details. But well-written questions can move students to higher-order thinking, such as application, integration, and evaluation Quick and easy to score, by hand or electronically Can be written so that they test a wide range of higher-order thinking skills Can cover lots of content areas on a single exam and still be answered in a class period Allow for assessment of a wide range of learning objectives Objective nature limits scoring bias Students can quickly respond to many items, permitting wide sampling and coverage of content Difficulty can be manipulated by adjusting similarity of distractors Efficient to administer and score Incorrect response patterns can be analyzed Less influenced by guessing than true-false Disadvantages A careful reading of some questions can reveal the right answer, and test savvy students will use this to their advantage. It might be the grammatical structure that only fits one answer option or the longer length of the correct response. What happens here is that the questions end up testing literary skill rather than content knowledge.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
