H Last Revised January 7, 2019 Course Description This seminar course will explore the complex interplay between mindfulness (as a trait and an intervention) and emotional processing. We will examine the psychology of emotions, sociocultural perspectives on emotions, various conceptualizations/historical origins of mindfulness, the neuroscience of mindfulness and emotions, correlates and outcomes associated with mindfulness, and therapeutic modalities that integrate mindfulness to promote an alternate relationship with one’s emotions. These concepts will be assessed through critical reflections, discussions, lectures, interactive classroom activities, and presentations. As well, students will demonstrate their in-depth knowledge of the course materials and research methods in a cumulative research proposal project. Course Learning Outcomes On completion of this course the student will be able to: 1. Demonstrate knowledge of the current and relevant issues within the seminar. 2. Express differing points of view with regard to the relevant literature. 3. Relate prior course material to the seminar topic. 4.
