ETHICAL CONCERNS A 5-year old male patient presents in the office today with both parents for his required physical examination before starting Kindergarten. His parents have voiced that they are opposed to the patient receiving any vaccinations. After inquiring about this stated opposition, the parents have informed me that this is standpoint is due to their Catholic beliefs. I am aware that “ one of the most usual reasons for exemption are medical reasons, followed by the religious, social, and philosophical reasons (personal belief, conscience objection)” (Pelcic et al., 2016). The parents proceeded to explain to me that the Catholic religion recognizes the purpose of vaccines and the importance of health protection, however, they would prefer to seek alternative medical interventions instead. This is mostly due to their refusal to accept vaccines that have been made using cell lines created from fetuses that have been aborted. This
