Amaya Butler English 131-07 Ms. Snyder November 18 th , 2018 OB/GYN Career Profile Introduction: For my future career I am going to be an OB/GYN. An OB/GYN are physicians who provide medical care related to pregnancy or childbirth and those who diagnose, treat, and help prevent diseases of women, particularly those affecting the reproductive system. May also provide general medical care to women. Additionally, you work with expecting mothers throughout their pregnancies, during childbirth and into postpartum. I am choosing to go into the medical field because almost everyone in my family has been in the medical field. My grandmother was a nurse for more than 20 years, my aunt and father are currently working in a Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Lastly my mother worked in health insurance for 17 years and now she works in LabCorp. I feel like the health field is just in my blood. That it’s something that I was meant to go into. I will work in a hospital setting for a certain amount of years and then I would like to open my own practice. This is my dream and I will achieve it no matter what. Education/Preparation: To become an OBGYN, I would need to complete an undergraduate degree with a major in science or another area that is applicable to medicine. That is why I am pursuing a biology degree here at Livingstone College right now with the focus of Pre-Med. Next comes medical school. I plan on going to New York University, because right now tuition is free for all students pursuing a medical degree, hopefully it is still going on when I get finished with my first four

years here. After that is when you will need to have an internship or residency, I already have a
