Renewable Energy 2 Reliability of Large Scale Clean Renewable Energy Electricity is an essential need in modern life due to its wide application in both small and large scales. Globally, the development of major economies in nearly all countries has significantly contributed to a rapid increase in demand for a reliable supply of electricity. This demand drives the need for governments and private sectors to generate more electricity; therefore, many power generation plants are needed in the future. Traditionally, coal has been the primary source of large-scale power in many countries. Although it remains an important source of power in such countries such China, experts have revealed that its burning, as well as the same of other fossil fuels, has severe environmental impacts (Diesendorf 2016). It is important to note that the combustion of fossil fuels emits carbon dioxide gases in the environment, which is a noteworthy contributor to the environmental change. Even though the demand for electricity has been rapidly increasing, experts have advocated for the generation of large-scale renewable energy. This recommendation is a worldwide method of managing climate change. Renewable energy generation is increasing at a higher rate across the world irrespective of its high cost. However, many experts believe that the fundamental hurdle in the large-scale electricity generation using renewable sources is the base-load power stations. Essentially, base-load power stations are crucial in power generation. However, large-scale renewable energy generation is paramount, and a reliable form of electricity can be obtained without base-load power stations or storage The primary challenge with sources of renewable energy, especially wind and solar is intermittency. Many people believe that renewable energy can only become helpful when it is affordable, reliable, and has deployable storage facilities. Undoubtedly, storage is fundamental in ensuring a stable power supply to meet the rise in electricity demand. Furthermore, storage

Renewable Energy 3 technologies offer a wide range of other benefits, such as peak shaving, ramp rate control, and frequency regulation, which assist in reducing electricity costs and enhancing the performance of the transition system (Sinn 2017). However, even though storage is essential, large-scale power generation using renewable sources is possible without vast storage facilities and ought to be the primary objective for all nations. Many experts have agreed that baseload stations are unnecessary as a 100 percent renewable energy generation is possible. According to Diesendorf (2016), Australia is shutting down its coal-fired stations after achieving over 39% annual consumption from renewable electricity. In this regard, Australia has also operated reliably by using a combination of renewables and gas with only insignificant power imports from neighboring countries. Besides, some states in Germany, for instance, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
