The metaphors and similes are found all over the book,from describing a person to describing an entire battle. Throughout the novel,,thesesomeformsof figurative languageareisused. The first example of a metaphor is on page 3 when the spy describes the heat, “The day was murderously hot…”. This metaphor tells how hot it is outside because of the adjective murderously. The metaphor has an effect for the reader because the heat affects how Buford, Chamberlain, and Longstreet’s, and their troops’ moods. The first example of a simile is on pages 3 and 4 when the spy notices many troops near him “..., building like water behind a cracking dam.” This simile describes how much pressure is on the spy because if he gets caught, then he may get killed or tortured. The simile has an effect on the story because it shows how quickly he got stressed.
