The Lac Operon: Lactose galactose + glucose β -galactosidase Operon is ON when lactose or artificial inducer (IPTG) is present. Operon encodes enzymes required for lactose utilization. Glucose = catabolite repression. When glucose is present, it is a better carbon source; therefore lac operon is OFF.
