When the receiver prefers one-to-one contact. When there is a need to get immediate feedback (for further action). When something involves emotions (talking will make them take out their steam and cool down/ understand each other’s views). When the receiver is too busy/ preoccupied to read. When the sender wants to persuade/ convince (verbal & non-verbal queues like eye contact, emphasizing points, inflection in tone etc will help to achieve the purpose). When discussion is needed.
