Leadership Guidebook Effective Best Practices Leaders see a vision and direction, they inspire their employees to head in the right direction and they motivate people to get things done. Leaders are good at influencing others. Managers try to get things done, they focus on budgets, schedules, processes, paperwork and details. Managers are good at accomplishing tasks. As a supervisor in our organization we want you to be a leader not a manager. The tools that are needed to be a good leader include the following: Model appropriate behavior-behaving in the way we want our employees to behave. Leader behaviors eventually pass down to employees so have a character that you would want to be imitated. Be patient-taking the time to become a good leader and earn the respect of your team and peers. Making quick decisions can be harmful and contradictory to your purpose of good leadership. Learn about your employees-find out what your employees strengths and weaknesses are so you can lead them effectively. Knowing who is good at what can help you lead your team to success. Be available-the more you are available as a leader to your team the easier it is for
