Running Head: Bioterrorism Bioterrorism Bioterrorism is an ongoing and very serious threat that not only occurs in the United States but all over the world. Bioterrorism is the release of viruses, bacteria, or other germs that is done intentionally to do harm or death. These germs or viruses are often found in nature and in the wrong hands can be a very efficient and deadly weapons. In Chertoff’s article, "Confronting Biological Threats to the Homeland,” the first area of focus to me is the most important. Threat awareness and protection, when it relates to an Anthrax attack, is our first line of defense in keeping the attack from ever happening in the first place. Threat awareness addresses the need to identify and, if possible, incapacitate a threat before it occurs. (Chertoff, 2008) Anthrax has been used as a weapon before. Anthrax has been used as a weapon around the world for nearly a century. In 2001, powdered anthrax spores were deliberately put into letters that were mailed
