Finger By Bailey White My uncle Jimbuddy, the cabinet maker, has been cutting off pieces of his fingers for ten years now. The doctors always try to talk him into letting them reattach the severed pieces. “There will be some loss of use,” they say, “but from a cosmetic standpoint...” But Uncle Jimbuddy says, “Naa. It would be flopping around down there and, hell, I’d just cut it off again.” He has found that the next one to go is always the longest, so he hopes someday to get them all of a length. Then, he thinks, maybe he can leave them alone. I’ll never forget the first time Uncle Jimbuddy lost a finger. In those days I was not used to it, as I have become over the years, and it took me by surprise. Earlier in the day he had called my mother from his shop. He had a bushel of Cathead Island oysters he wanted to give us. We headed straight to town, because Cathead oysters are the best- they come from way out and have none of that brackish taint you often find in bay oysters.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
