Unit 1 Assignment: Defining Medical/Health Informatics Healthcare Informatics simply stated is, the management and use of systems, networks, and data used in the healthcare profession. This includes Electronic Health Records (EHRs) and various health information systems (HIS). In today’s day in age, technology is at an all-time high and is continuing to grow. By implementing these systems we are trying to improve the quality and efficiency of healthcare in ways that traditional paper charting was inadequate for addressing the complexities of medical care in the modern day. Not only does it improve quality performance but also costs and relieves employees of manual tasks. Per the Institute of Medicines watershed report called, “Crossing the Quality Chasm”, there are six key aims necessary to improve the quality of care. They are: safe, effective, patient centered, timely, efficient, and equitable. Collectively by focusing on the six goals, we are able to
