What is Biosocial Theory? Millions of people who live in poverty, face financial challenges in today’s society but still abide by the law. Those who commit crime are believed to choose crime because of a pre-existing condition. Believes that human behavior is a based off the interaction of biochemical, neurological and genetic factors with environment stimuli. NOTE: This means that elements of the environment such as family life and community factors interact with biological factors like diet and neurological make up to influence our behavior. Biochemical Factors Criminologists believe that deformities in biochemical makeup can lead to antisocial behavior. Example of biochemical factors that are linked to antisocial behavior include: Vitamin and Mineral deficiencies Hormone imbalance Environmental contaminants(Lead pollution) Other damaging factors such as maternal alcohol abuse/smoking during pregnancy have been linked to prenatal damage.
