Ramirez 1 Alma Ramirez Professor Stewart Physiology 1 17 June 2019 Enzymes An enzyme speeds up a chemical reaction which helps lower the activation energy. Enzymes are proteins and a form of a catalyst, it speeds up the inition of reaction. Enzymes are never consumed within a reaction they are consistently being used over and over again because they are assisting with the reaction. A visual idea of an enzyme's job is to think of the enzyme as a puzzle piece. The blank spot of this puzzle piece would be the active site. The tabs that correspond to the blank spot of the puzzle are the substrates. This enzyme can only work for specific substrates, same as a puzzle only a certain piece fits the blank spot out of all the other pieces that there are, such as a lock and key situation. After the substrate is attached to the enzyme it is converted into product. It is converted into product by having water (H2O) added.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
