This week’s reading materials review Green-to-Gold Plays that companies have adopted in order to address and mitigate any environmental issues that can and have occurred. There are upsides to eco- efficiency as well as downsides; however, even the downsides have upsides. For instance, when large and small companies are seeking to become more sustainable in their practices, yes there is an initial expense to make that change, but the long-term financial gains have proven to be beneficial for most companies. DuPont started a program called Pollutions Prevention Pays (3P) and even though it may has cost them to start this program and there were other factors that I’m sure affected the financial bottom line for the first years of it establishment, the “program now claims a cumulative total of almost 5,000 projects and environmental savings of 2.2 billion pounds of pollutants” (Etsy & Winston, 2009) and as a result of controlling their waste treatment and pollution, they find that their expenses are down to $400 million versus the $2 billion that they could have grown to without this program in place (Etsy & Winston, 2009). With that and in keeping with the assignment, other downsides of this venture are companies meaning well with an approach to environmental concerns with regard to pollutants and wastes reduction, could find themselves either shifting one pollutant issue onto another (i.e. different ways of waste reduction resulting in the same environmental issues) and without proper planning (i.e. anticipatory issues

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
