P a g e | 2 INTRODUCTION Internal combustion engine is an engine that converts the chemical energy of fuel (gasoline, diesel, CNG) into mechanical work by pushing a piston within a cylinder by means of combustion of fuel. The piston’s movement then turns a crankshaft that turns th e wheels of car with the help of chain or drive shaft. There are different types of internal combustion engines such as gasoline engine, diesel engine and gas engine. Among them Gasoline and diesel engines are the most successful because of very high energy density of liquid fuel that can be stored in small and light weight storage tank, safe and fast refueling process processes. However, efficiency of those engine is low and cost of fuel is increasing day by day. Also those fuels create emissions issues. Hybrid engines is new alternative means of transportations. The benefits of Hybrid engines are increase in fuel economy, increase in performance and reduce emissions. PRINCIPLE OBJECTIVE The aim of the project is to re-designing a freight truck into a hybrid system for a short-haul freight truck which can travel 400km when starting with charged batteries and a full tank of gas while pulling a typical load of 30,000 lbs.
