Jackie Robinson 2 Topic: Jackie Robinson General Purpose: To inform Specific Purpose: To inform my audience why Jackie Robinson is praised and his contributions to the baseball sport. Central Idea: Contributions of Jackie Robinson in fighting racism and supporting baseball Thesis: Jackie being the first black athlete to participate in major Baseball leagues, he proved to the world that color barrier cannot in any way hinder success. He was at the forefront of fighting racism and smashing the MLB segregation barrier through perseverance and hard work. When he was finally accepted in the league he was one of the most dominant players of all time. Introduction I. A young man called Abner Doubleday invented baseball in Cooperstown and has been an American past time for many years. A. The New York Knickerbocker baseball club members were in the forefront to help come up with rules and regulations in regard to the modern-day baseball B. The basis of baseball was on the English game Rounders. II. In the early 1900s, the MLB was only for white association thus, the African American stars were not allowed on the field.
