Generalist Social Work Practice – Chapter 3 Frames of Reference – Values, attitudes, and assumptions that will influence interactions. Practice Principles Acceptance – Conveys positive regard for clients’ strengths and potential for growth. - Regard for others shown in Agape (Greek for love) or Caritas (Latin for love) is critical, accepting, and transformative. - Authenticates the Worth and Dignity of client systems, expect clients to use their capacities for growth, builds on their strengths. - Facilitates Change Individualization – Affirms each client’s unique and distinctive characteristics - Focuses on each client’s unique characteristics and treating clients as persons with rights and dignity rather than objects, cases, or the next appointment. Nonjudgmentalism – Maintains non-blaming attitude toward clients. Objectivity – Promotes professional caring, concern, and commitment in working with clients. - Listen openly to avoid distorting a client’s story with their own biases and refrain from prejudicially labelling the client.
