Converging Lenses Lab (#3 Lens) Names: Giovanny Alvarez, Jaevin Poquiz, Ailey Vasquez, Alex Le Introduction Converging lenses can produce both real and virtual images; diverging lenses can produce only virtual images. In this experiment we shall study image formation by converging lenses. Since the rays of light converge to form the image, it is a real image and can be projected on a screen. Objective After completing this experiment, you should be able to determine the focal length of any converging lense and understand its image forming characteristics by calculating image height and the magnification of the image. Focal Length a) Go outside with the lens, a ruler, and a piece of paper. b) Hold the lens so the sun shines through it onto a piece of paper. c) Focus the image so it is sharp and bright. d) Measure the distance between the lens and the screen. e) Have each student in your group find the focal length of the lens then average the numbers together to get a focal length.

### What students are saying

• As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

Kiran Temple University Fox School of Business ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

Dana University of Pennsylvania ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
