RESEARCH AND PROGRAM EVALUATION2 Topic Overview I have a person close to me that has struggled with methamphetamine addiction for 15 years. I have seen the struggles of trying to stay sober and losing everything that was important to him. I was surprised to find promising data about the chances of recovery from Methamphetamine addiction because I have only heard how difficult it to stay clean from methamphetamine. I expect that by continuing this line of inquiry I might gain a clearer perspective on meth addiction that will help me establish best practices when treating an addict of methamphetamine. Audit Trail I found this research to be much more frustrating than I anticipated. I couldn’t find what I wanted to find, and I wasn’t sure if I was doing the searches properly. First I searched in the database PsycINFO for “adoption and children and mental issues. Next, I narrowed the search by Boolean/Phrase, apply related words, apply equivalent subject and peer reviewed journals. I limited the search to qualitative and quantitative. This search yielded 11 articles, none of which were what I was looking to read about. I look at the first article Behavior problems, foster home integration, and evidence-based behavioral interventions: What predicts adoption of foster children? I searched in the database PsycINFO for “life balance for women AND benefits AND obstacles”. Next, I narrowed the search by Boolean/Phrase, apply related words, apply equivalent subject and peer reviewed journals. I limited the search to Focus group. The articles that appeared from this search were again not at all what I was looking for. I decided to try something different I went to new search and changed my databases to PsycINFO, ERIC, Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition, PsycARTICLES, Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection. In the first select text box I put Children and counseling treatment, and in the next I typed best

RESEARCH AND PROGRAM EVALUATION3 practices and finally added benefits or advantages or positive effects. I used Boolean/Phrase as my search mode and then I limited my results to scholarly journals and publication type peer reviewed journal and English. This search yielded only one article titled Physician practices to prevent ADHD stimulant diversion and misuse. Next, I changed my topic to addiction or substance abuse or drug abuse and recovery and death and left the other search limiters the same. This yielded 118 articles. The first article under this search is The Road to Recovery from Alcoholism and Addiction: Retribution or Restoration? I modified my search by changing death to methamphetamine. The modification to my previous search yielded 98 articles. The first article was titled Positive affect and processes of recovery among treatment-

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
