NURSING EDUCATION 2 The History of Nursing Education Key Historical Influences The nursing practice experience development to overcome several challenges. The nursing profession is highly respected today despite domination by women. The nurses got traditional obligations which bound them, and there is a general feeling that nurses are less expensive in comparison to the other healthcare workers. The changes in society over time with the advancement in technology in healthcare have seen significant improvement in nursing. The first school for nursing got developed in 1872 at the New England Women Hospital in the United States. The nursing training at the period was hospital-based and the trained nurses were required to provide services to the hospital after which they take nursing education later (Fairman, 2012). In 1873 Linda Richards graduated from the New England Women Hospital and was named the first nurse trainee after studying for a year (McDermid et al., 2012). Linda Richards received training through the Florence Nightingale model, which comprised the evidence-based practice and the approach for systematic data collection, including patient care.
