After examining this week’s case scenario and case studies it is evident that these texts
have a major connection involving strong beliefs on religion, gender identity, and sexual
orientation. In this essay I will examine the different perspectives, of the teacher, students,
parents and anyone that is involved in the case scenario and case studies.
Billy is a new student at a school, where the community respects the different diversity in
race and are religious but when it comes to same sex couples and gender issues they are against
it. Billy comes from a home where he lives with his 2 moms and the way he dresses makes
people think he is transgendered. Because of these reasons students in Billy’s class do not want
to collaborate with him and are complaining about having to work with him.
A similar case to Billy’s is case 9.4 Two Moms (Gorski & Pothini, 2018). In this case
there is also a student that came from a home that lives with 2 moms, the teacher Ms. Ribiero
finds out and wanted to make the student feel comfortable and safe in her classroom by Ms.
Ribiero conducts a research and finds two books that would be adequate for Denise’s experience.
The problem within this case is that a few months later students question Denise what she was
reading and label her as “weird. Ms. Ribiero then decides to read the book to her class aloud and
have a conversation about family diversity. Students enjoyed the book and asked questions Ms.
Ribiero was happy that students were being respectful, and that Denise was able to answer their
questions. It wasn’t until the next morning that Principal Hernandez told Ms. Ribiero that parents
