2 NURSE BURNOUT Nurse Burnout How competing needs, such as the needs of the workforce, resources, and patients, may impact the development of policy In order to formulate a policy in nursing the competing needs need to be in line with the aim of the policy. For instance, employees’ needs can be sufficiently handled however the assets necessary may are not be adequate to expedite policy formation. Moreover, the policy can have positive benefits to the patients and negative effects to the workforce. That is why it is very important to engage in stakeholder mapping to ensure that each of the needs of the key stakeholders are adequately addressed in policy development. According to Efstathiou & Walker (2014), when nurses are stressed and burnt out, they end up providing poor quality of care to patients which leads to failure to achieve the desired outcomes of patients.
