DIET - PROS AND CONS By Katherine Izrael 1 Dear Jane, That’s great that you are wanting to become healthier. Here is an overview of the 3 most popular diets I found and my opinions on them. Ketogenic According to Mawer (2018), the ketogenic diet focuses on eliminating carbs and increasing fat intake in order to bring about the metabolic state of Ketosis. Ketosis occurs when the body runs out of carbs to burn and starts breaking down stored fat into ketones (Ireland, 2018). This process, causes rapid weight loss. However, to run at maximum efficiency, the human body needs balanced portions of proteins, carbohydrates, and lipids (Ireland, 2018). Furthermore, extreme ketosis can lead to dangerously high acid levels in the blood (Ireland, 2018). Raw – The raw diet is as it sounds, a diet that consist of raw food. Taylor Jones (2017), a registered dietician, says food is considered raw if it has never been heated over 118 F. According to Jones, this diet is based on the fact that cooking food kills the natural enzymes and reduces the amount of nutrients it has.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
